Frith Cold Cast Bronze Sculptures

Frith Sculpture

Sculpture is a genuine passion at Frith Sculpture who offer a fine collection of figurative pieces sculpted by a number of leading British artists. The pieces are hand made by skilled craftsmen in the West Country of England and feature Frith's special Bronze finish. The Frith sculpture collection is notable for its appealing bronze animals including an extensive range of Bronze hares and cats. We have chosen a great selection of pieces to showcase at Sculpture Gallery including pieces by popular artists Veronica Ballan and Paul Jenkins.

Veronica Ballan

Veronica's characterful ceramic animals are much sought after and can now be enjoyed in a fabulous range of cold cast bronze pieces. Veronica first fell in love with art as a child and went on the study at Newcastle College of Art, Sunderland College of Art and Newcastle University before becoming a teacher. Her first ceramic figures were created for her students and were gorgeous angels for Christmas.

Veronica eventually gave up teaching to concentrate on her own work. Her angels and stoneware ladies became so popular that she could barely keep up with demand. She later started to sculpt the woolly animals that would become her best loved pieces. The whimsical hairy creatures soon attracted a devoted following with fans loving their great character and charm. The woolly coats are fashioned by using shredded clay which is dried naturally before being fired.

Ballan's wonderful characters are bought to life beautifully in Frith bronze sculptures. The appealing donkeys, ewes, rams and bulls are highly collectable and boast what Ballan herself describes as impressionist realism. The essence of each breed is captured and then given a whimsical twist that really draws the eye.

Paul Jenkins

Paul is an English artist from the West Midlands who initially worked in wood before moving on to ceramics and bronze. His work is inspired by the British countryside and its diverse wildlife. He crafts many of his pieces following direct observation of his pets at home and other subjects in the wild. Paul Jenkins is best known for his striking sculptures of hares which perfectly capture these fascinating creatures' athleticism and personality. He also creates endearing studies of cats and dogs which have proved popular across the world.

The beauty of Bronze

Bronze sculpture has a timeless feel and tactile quality which sets it apart. It's the perfect medium for smaller studies as it can capture and highlight the tiniest details of the artist's work and can produce a variety of textures. Bronze enables the artist's unique style to shine through in their sculpture, in striking yet affordable pieces that would grace any space. If you would like to know more about the cold casting technique used by Frith Sculpture, then please do read our guide which explains the process in detail.
