Rob Hefferan is a deeply talented artist who works in many media, always with the goal of rendering with precision and a certain poetry the architecture of the human form. Inspired much by the Pre-Raphaelite movement, he is nonetheless a very modern artist, one who is driven by a joie de vivre and a passion for celebrating the joys of humanity. He works with oils and acrylics as well as producing limited edition sculptures, examples of which we are very happy to have here at the Sculpture Gallery. A master of detailing the beauty of the human form, it is no surprise that his sculpted work is such a magnificent success.
A lifelong passion for art
Rob grew up in Warrington, Cheshire, where he was born in 1968. His passion for art started at a young age. Rob's creative imagination was fuelled by family trips to Cornwall, where he would sketch the dynamic coastline in all its magnificence. Nature indeed still plays a large part in his life, as he enjoys taking himself out to the expanses of the Lancashire countryside and exploring the natural landscape on long walks between his artistic projects. These walks, along with regular trips into the Manchester Art Gallery, never fail to serve as aesthetic sustenance for Rob to this day.
Versatile realist artist
Developing an early passion for the Old Masters of art, he found school was often a stifling environment, apart from the haven of art lessons. He was then able to explore his passion more thoroughly at Padgate Art School, where Rob studied 1985-89. After this, he spent a year studying illustration at university. However, he found that he could not wait to get out there and carve out a path for himself, so he did just that, taking up a year of hard work to build up an impressive portfolio.
Due to his skill and versatility, Rob had a successful time in the commercial field, but it was in 2003 when his first exhibition catapulted him to critical acclaim and global appeal. His skills as one of the foremost figurative realist artists of his generation have seen him become a sought-after name in collections all across the world.
